## CHF/SEK: what has moved in recent months

The Riksbank left its rate at 1.75% on 20 August 2026, a twelfth consecutive hold, repeating that it would tighten before year-end if the Middle East conflict revived inflation. The franc, for its part, stays at 0.00% but is backed by the lowest inflation in Europe, at 0.4% in July.

### SNB on hold, growth springs a surprise

The Swiss National Bank kept its policy rate at 0.00% at its 18 June 2026 assessment, a fourth consecutive hold, with inflation projected at 0.6% for both 2026 and 2027. Swiss inflation fell back to 0.4% year on year in July, a four-month low. The surprise of the quarter: GDP jumped 1.5% in the second quarter against expectations of 0.2% to 0.4%, driven by a 15.2% rebound in chemical and pharmaceutical exports. The next assessment is on 24 September 2026.

### Twelve months of standing still at 1.75%

The Riksbank left its policy rate at 1.75% on 20 August 2026, for the twelfth month running — the lowest level in the European Union. It repeated that it stands ready to tighten before the end of the year if the Middle East conflict revives inflation. The Swedish krona has spent the past month in a narrow corridor against the euro, between 10.96 and 11.10.

CHF → SEK

### What it means for you

The Swedish krona has spent the past month in a narrow corridor against the euro, between 10.96 and 11.10, and that carries over to CHF/SEK. Absent a monetary catalyst before December, the margin applied to the conversion matters more than the market move.

**Benchmark on 28 August 2026:** 1 CHF ≈ 11.8502 SEK. The converter at the top of this page shows the live rate.

The economics of the pair

## CHF/SEK: the SNB versus the Riksbank

The rate between the **Swiss franc (CHF)** and the **Swedish krona (SEK)** pits two very different monetary profiles against each other. Its dynamics are dictated by the relationship between two central banks: the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and the Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, one of the oldest in the world.

The Swiss franc is a safe-haven currency, renowned for its stability: the SNB has kept a very low policy rate and stands ready to intervene on the foreign exchange market to contain imported inflation. The Swedish krona, for its part, is a smaller, less liquid currency, sensitive to international trade and the euro area's economic climate. The Riksbank steers its policy according to its own economic cycle, which can put it out of step with the SNB.

This contrast explains the pair's nervousness: in periods of risk aversion, capital takes refuge in the franc, which appreciates against the SEK; conversely, a European recovery or a rise in Swedish rates can support the krona. As a result, the CHF/SEK moves more than more stable pairs such as the CHF/EUR. Frequently asked questions

## Frequently asked questions about CHF/SEK exchange

There is no universal ideal day. The CHF/SEK rate depends on market movements and the decisions of the SNB and the Riksbank. The Swiss franc, a safe-haven currency, tends to appreciate against the Swedish krona in periods of risk aversion, while the SEK, more sensitive to the economic cycle, strengthens when European growth accelerates. Monitor the real rate continuously and trigger your exchange at the moment that suits you.

With ibani, you fund your account in Swiss francs (CHF), then convert the sum into Swedish kronor (SEK) at the real market rate, plus a margin of 0.40% to 0.15% depending on the amount, before transferring it to a bank account in Sweden. The operation is 100% digital, with no hidden fees.

The Swiss franc is a very stable safe-haven currency, whereas the Swedish krona is a smaller, less liquid currency strongly correlated with international trade and the euro area's economic climate. This difference in nature makes the CHF/SEK pair more volatile than pairs such as CHF/EUR, with amplified movements in periods of stress or economic recovery.

ibani applies a transparent margin from 0.40% to 0.15% on the real interbank rate, decreasing with amounts. There are no opening or account maintenance fees. Transfers to a Swedish krona account may, however, be subject to correspondent bank fees, which are independent of ibani. See the details on the [Rates](https://www.ibani.com/en/rates) page.
