Frequently Asked Questions by Freelancers

No, it is not mandatory. ibani caters perfectly well to individual freelancers and Sole Proprietorships. You can open a business account using your freelance status to enjoy all of our exchange and collection benefits.

Absolutely. If you are a self-employed worker based abroad (in France, Germany, the UK, etc.) and you bill clients in Switzerland, you can open an ibani account. This will allow you to get a Swiss IBAN (CH) to receive your payments in Swiss francs without cross-border fees, which we will then convert to your local account.

Once your ibani account is created, generate a "collection route" in the app for your client's currency (CHF, EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, SGD). You will get a dedicated IBAN. Add this IBAN to your invoice. When your client pays, the funds are received, converted at our favorable rate, and transferred to your regular bank account.

If you are a freelancer in Switzerland registered in the Commercial Register (RC), a recent extract and an ID document are sufficient. If you are not registered in the RC, a certificate of affiliation to the OASI/AHV (or an equivalent document from your country of residence if you are foreign), along with your ID and proof of residence, will be enough to validate your pro account.
