The rate between the pound sterling (GBP) and the Swiss franc (CHF) pits two currencies of very different nature against each other. Its dynamics are dictated by the monetary policy gap between two central banks: the Bank of England (BoE) and the Swiss National Bank (SNB).
The pound is a cyclical currency, highly reactive to British economic releases, BoE rate decisions and the political context in the United Kingdom. The Swiss franc, by contrast, plays the role of a safe haven: the SNB runs a rigorous policy to contain imported inflation and tolerates an appreciation of the CHF against more volatile currencies. In times of tension, capital often moves from the pound to the franc.
Points of reference: the 2016 Brexit referendum and its aftermath weighed heavily on the pound, while the SNB's abandonment of the EUR/CHF floor in January 2015 caused the franc to surge on all pairs, GBP/CHF included. Watch the calendar of BoE and SNB meetings to choose your moment to exchange.

There is no universal ideal moment. The GBP/CHF rate depends on the monetary policy gap between the Bank of England (BoE) and the SNB, as well as the risk climate on the markets. The Swiss franc, a safe-haven currency, tends to appreciate against the pound in times of uncertainty. Monitor the real rate continuously and trigger your exchange at the moment that suits you.

The pound sterling is a currency sensitive to British economic releases, Bank of England decisions and the political context (Brexit, budgets). Against it, the Swiss franc remains stable and sought after as a safe haven. This difference in nature explains sometimes pronounced movements on the GBP/CHF pair.
