The rate between the euro (EUR) and the Swiss franc (CHF) is one of the most closely watched monetary indicators in Europe. Its dynamics play out in the balance of power between two central banks : the European Central Bank (ECB), which steers the eurozone currency, and the Swiss National Bank (SNB).
For a holder of euros who has to settle an expense in Switzerland, the underlying trend is unfavourable : the euro has gradually weakened against the franc. The reasons: long higher inflation in the eurozone, the CHF's safe-haven status and an SNB that tolerates a strong franc to cushion the cost of its imports. With each surge of uncertainty in the eurozone, capital flows into the franc and the euro falls back.
Historical reference points : the floor rate of 1.20 CHF per 1 EUR set by the SNB in 2011, its abrupt abandonment in January 2015 (the "Francogeddon"), then the lasting move of the euro below parity (1 EUR < 1 CHF) from 2022. To anticipate, consult our EUR/CHF forecasts.

There is no universally ideal day. The EUR/CHF rate depends on market movements and on the decisions of the ECB and the SNB. The euro tends to weaken against the Swiss franc in times of uncertainty in the eurozone, when investors seek refuge in the CHF. Monitor the real rate continuously and trigger your exchange at the moment that suits you.
With ibani, you fund your account in euros by SEPA transfer from your eurozone bank. ibani converts your EUR into Swiss francs at the real market rate, then transfers the CHF to the Swiss account of your choice (rent, bills, supplier or beneficiary), with no hidden fees.
Since 2022, the euro has traded lastingly below 1 Swiss franc. This weakness of the euro is explained by higher inflation in the eurozone, by the franc's safe-haven status and by the SNB's policy, which tolerates a strong CHF to contain imported inflation.
ibani applies a transparent margin from 0.40% on the real interbank rate, decreasing with amounts. There are no opening, account maintenance or incoming SEPA transfer fees. It's up to 10× cheaper than a traditional bank. See the details on the Rates page.
