The rate between the Swiss franc (CHF) and the US dollar (USD) pits two of the world's most sought-after currencies against each other. Its dynamics are dictated by the relationship between two central banks : the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and the US Federal Reserve (Fed).
Both the Swiss franc and the dollar are perceived as safe-haven currencies, which makes their pair singular : in a crisis, capital flows towards both currencies at once. The CHF benefits from the stability of the Swiss economy and from the SNB's rigour in the face of imported inflation. The USD, for its part, remains the leading reserve and trade-invoicing currency of world commerce, which gives it structural demand.
The main driver of the CHF/USD rate remains the monetary policy gap : when the Fed raises its policy rates faster than the SNB, the dollar tends to strengthen ; conversely, US easing or a renewed aversion to risk often benefits the franc. US economic releases (employment, inflation) and Fed decisions cause the sharpest moves on the pair.

There is no universally ideal day. The CHF/USD rate depends on market movements and on decisions by the SNB and the Fed. The US dollar, the world's reserve currency, often strengthens when the Fed raises its rates, while the Swiss franc appreciates in times of uncertainty. Watch the real rate continuously and trigger your exchange at the moment that suits you.
The CHF and the USD are both safe-haven currencies, which makes their pair particularly sensitive to monetary policy gaps between the SNB and the Fed, to US economic releases and to the global geopolitical climate. Federal Reserve (Fed) rate decisions often cause sharp moves on the pair.
