The rate between the US dollar (USD) and the euro (EUR) derives from the EUR/USD pair, the most traded and most liquid currency pair in the world. Its dynamics are dictated by the relationship between two central banks : the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
The dollar is the world's main reserve currency : a large part of international trade, commodities and foreign exchange reserves is denominated in USD. Its value against the euro reacts above all to interest-rate gaps between the Fed and the ECB : when the Fed raises its rates faster than the ECB, the dollar tends to appreciate ; conversely, a US easing cycle often benefits the euro.
Added to this are inflation and employment figures (including the monthly US jobs reports), the relative growth of the two zones and the global risk climate — in times of tension, the dollar plays its role as a safe-haven asset. A notable landmark : in 2022, the euro briefly fell below parity with the dollar for the first time since 2002. To compare in the other direction, see our EUR/USD rate page.

There is no universally ideal moment. The USD/EUR rate depends on market movements and on the decisions of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and the ECB. An interest-rate gap in favour of the dollar tends to strengthen it against the euro. Monitor the real rate continuously and trigger your exchange at the moment that suits you.
